Diane Abundabar

2022 Asian American Staff Awardee
Director of Events & Rathbun Program Manager - Office for Religious Life

Profile by Mary Beth Lefebvre

One of our FACS leaders, Diane Abundabar, will be honored with the Stanford Asian American Staff Award on May 19, 2022.

Diane is the Director of Events and Rathbun Program Manager for the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life (ORSL). Diane is an asset to her colleagues and the Stanford community with her calmness and generous spirit.

Growing up in Vallejo, California, Diane followed in her mother’s footsteps and was always active in the Filipino-American community. This active involvement continued as Diane went off to California State University, Chico, and started her career. Here at Stanford, Diane was initially an observer in FACS events but soon began taking an active role in planning and volunteering wherever a hand was needed.

Diane’s role at ORSL is hectic since she oversees programming at Memorial Church, Windhover Contemplative Center, and the CIRCLE (Center for Inter-religious, Community, Learning, and Experiences).  However, she made her development a priority and completed her Masters in Higher Education Administration (M.Ed) from  Pennsylvania State University in 2021.

When asked about Filipino-American traditions that matter to her, Diane quickly answered, “family gatherings!” She missed the large, hospitable, food-rich reunions during the pandemic. She’s also grateful for the Fil-Am community. Diane noted that her father met a Filipino-American couple on the plane when he immigrated to the U.S.  The couple didn’t know her father, but they let him stay with them as he settled in the new country.  That couple inspired Diane’s spirit of generosity and welcome.  And we at FACS are thankful that Diane continues to help and inspire us!
