Mida—an app that converts hundreds of languages and fusions of languages into polished translations

Main content start

My name is Malaya, and I'm a Filipino-American student at Stanford University. My friends created Mida—an app that converts hundreds of languages and fusions of languages into polished translations. I believe FACS members and their families will benefit from using Mida to share our culture, connect with friends and family, and find opportunities. Unlike other translation apps, Mida uses AI technology to understand fusions of multiple languages within a single input and convert various conversational tones, dialects, and slang terms into professional English.

Key points about Mida:

  • Mida seeks to address two existing gaps in the translation space:

Mixing languages

  • Mida can translate over 100 languages and fusions of them.
  • Mida understands more dialects and niche languages than any other translation technology.

Generating stylistically professional translations

  • Mida outputs polished, professional languages. Language learners often struggle with vocabulary and grammar. When writing emails, making posts, designing websites, speaking with others, or filing immigration/refugee paperwork, it is crucial to sound professional.
  • Mida better understands slang and better captures the intended meaning of an input rather than a word-for-word direct translation.
  • One of our core values is to always offer our translation services for free to our users.
  • Users have used Mida to chat with doctors, file immigration papers, speak with family, and compose work emails.
  • Mida was made by children of immigrants for their families. Our founder built the app because his mom, who has been in the US for two decades, still calls him weekly to proofread her emails. Now, his mom uses the app to write all her English emails.
