“Dahil Sa’yo” by Isabella Andaya
My name is Isabella Andaya. I am a senior majoring in Film and Media Studies with a concentration in Screenwriting. I grew up in Delaware and chose to attend Stanford for an interdisciplinary education while in pursuit of a career in filmmaking.
“Dahil Sa’yo” is a short film I produced through Stanford Arts Institute and its Honors in the Arts Program. It tells the story of a Filipino immigrant father who teaches his son a game of running to the store for buko juice, while also teaching him self-reliance and love. Inspired by my own parents, I use this film to explore the sacrifices after the Sacrifice within the immigrant experience. You can learn more about my project at the Honors in the Arts Public Exhibition on Friday, June 7 from 10:30am-4:30pm!
Following graduation, I hope to submit this film to festivals, as well as get started on other work. (My parents and I want to visit the Philippines this summer, so I am considering creating something there!) Then, after working for a couple years, I plan to pursue a master’s degree at a traditional film school.
